Australia’s international education sector continues to thrive, with student enrolments reaching an impressive 1,095,298 by December 2024—a 15% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. This growth is further reflected in record-breaking commencements, with 571,986 new students beginning their studies, marking a 12% rise from the same period in 2019.

With more than half of these students coming from China, India, Nepal, the Philippines, and Vietnam, the Australian education landscape remains a top destination for global learners.

The Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector has shown the strongest expansion, experiencing a 40% increase in enrolments since 2019, reflecting a growing demand for practical, skills-based training.

Higher Education institutions also saw steady growth, with 13% more enrolments compared to 2019.

However, sectors such as ELICOS (English Language Courses), Schools, and Non-Award programs reported declines of 7%, 23%, and 25%, respectively. These shifts highlight evolving student preferences and market trends influencing enrolment choices.
